Wrap Up! I Made it to the End!

I can't believe it's over! This has been a very fun and worthwhile experience. I will definately use some of these THINGS here at work and in my personal life. I realize that organizing this learning experience involved a tremendous amount of work and planning. Thanks so much - I really appreciate your efforts!! Now, I must register for the party!

Week 13/Things 21,22 & 23

In reality, this is catch-up week - not Week 13! I'm glad to have this extra time as I was on holidays for 2 weeks in April. Thing 21 WORDLE was lots of unexpected fun - it was great to see words from my blog transformed into a colourful crazy word salad explosion! The most interesting aspect of Thing 22 Library Thing was getting recommendations about other books I might want to read. And there were some interesting reviews. As for Thing 23, Smilebox, it has some interesting things to offer - if I was a scrapbooky type of person with lots of time on my hands. I did create a recipe page and emailed it to myself.

Week 12/Things 19 & 20

On-line Mapping & GIS - So far, Community Walk is my favourite of the 23 Things. I just came back from Victoria, B.C. and received inquiries re: shopping, restaurants, sightseeing from a co-worker who will be holidaying there soon. It was such fun finding bookstores, shoe store, restaurants, points of interest that I went to on my holiday- marking them on the map and emailing them to my co-worker. Very useful! Now I'm going to attempt to embed a google map of my old stomping grounds - the beautiful Fort Qu'Appelle, SK.

Week 11/Things 17 & 18

In reality it is Week 13, but I have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks and am now playing catch-up.
Social Bookmarking: I checked out DIIGO - which would make a great pet name, by the way. I did not feel the need to open an account because it doesn't fit my current needs in the workplace or at home. However, I can appreciate that it could be a great tool if you were doing collaborative research.
Widgets: I also added a countdown widget/gadget to my igoogle page - the one I chose has a progress bar. It emphasizes the urgency I feel to complete my 23 Things!!! Thanks for giving us an extra week!

Week 10, Things 15 & 16

Facebook - I must be a very unsocial person as I have no desire to create an online profile. It offends my sense of privacy - although it is probably useful for reconnecting with distant friends and family. From a 'working in the e-world' point of view, I can see it as a way of keeping in touch with our users as most students seem to use facebook.

Twitter - I did set up a twitter account, browsed through the subject list and picked some twitter streams to follow. Great method for keeping up with popular culture/celeb gossip. For news, I perfer RSS feeds.

Week 9/Thing 14 Photosharing

Flickr! I did not have a lot of extra time this week, and did not want to open a Flickr account - so just explored option A. I looked under the heading 'library cats' (how did you ever guess?) and found a picture that had 'some rights reserved', which means I am free to share - to copy, distribute and transmit the work. This picture was taken by eyeimage

And here is she is - tagged by the creator as 'psychologically unstable cat maybe'

Week 7/Things 11 & 12

Well, sometimes my pet is wiki wiki (super fast) - when she's been naughty, or when she knows it's time to go to the vet! In fact, Wiki would be an excellent name for a kitty! Or for a toy or treat! But seriously, I can see Wikis being an excellent tool for collaborative efforts. Wikis could prove to be a useful tool for me in the future. (As for my pet, she'd choose manipulation over collaboration any day. And why not? It works!)
